Episode 9 - Russ O'Connell

Russ O’Connell is a distinguished photographic director and picture editor with over two decades of experience in the UK media landscape. Since June 2015, he has served as Picture Editor of The Sunday Times Magazine, renowned for its pioneering use of photography and commitment to high-quality visual storytelling.

Russ began his career at Heat magazine in the early 2000s, a time marked by the transition from analog to digital photography. He later became Photo Director at Q magazine, where he was instrumental in producing and art-directing shoots with major music artists. He subsequently held the role of Photographic Director at British GQ, further refining his skills in high-end editorial photography.

In addition to his editorial work, Russ has contributed to the broader photography community as a judge for prestigious competitions such as the Sony World Photography Awards and the BJP International Photography Award. He is also known for mentoring emerging photographers, championing authenticity and strong narrative in visual storytelling.

Episode 8 - Perou

Richard began his career in the early 1980s, capturing iconic images of punk, rock, and new wave artists. With a passion for music and a distinctive black-and-white photographic style, Bellia quickly made a name for himself by documenting some of the era’s most influential musicians and bands.
From legendary figures like David Bowie, The Cure, and Nirvana to punk icons like The Clash and the Sex Pistols. His images are known for their intimacy and intensity.
Throughout his career, Bellia has published several books, including An Eye on Music, which showcases a collection of his best work from over three decades. His photographs have been exhibited worldwide, making him a highly regarded figure in both the photography and music scenes.

Dave chats to David Montgomery a celebrated award-winning international photographer. Having produced some of the most iconic images of the sixties, he is internationally renowned as one of the most legendary photographers of all time.

Settings fires with Jimi Hendrix, The Queens two bar heater, his love of real fog, handling on set tension and an insight into his technical and creative process.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, he attended photography courses run by Alexi Brodevitch and worked for the award-winning photographer Lester Bookbinder for four years, following Bookbinder to England in the early 1960’s. David took up residence in London, where he continues to live with his family.
David is internationally known as a portrait photographer of high profile statesmen and celebrities. Dave chats to Tom Oldham a London-based photographer, shooting portraits of musicians, sports stars and all sorts of talented people in locations across the nation and worldwide.

He is a Sony Ambassador and AOP award winner.

Amateur Photographer Magazine has made Tom their 2023 ‘Hero of Photography’ for his Creative Corners project, where he collects books for state schools.

In 2020 Tom won the Sony World Open Photographer of The Year for his portrait of Black Francis for MOJO Magazine.

Andy Earl is a British photographer with a hugely successful career within the international music business with over 120 creative memorable covers and album sleeves, working with artists such as, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash, Robbie Williams, Madonna and Prince and also a portrait session with HRH Prince Charles.

He has worked on twenty videos for musicians such as the Rolling Stones.

Andy has three published monographs, two stamps and has exhibited worldwide including the Venice Biennale
